Daniel Rosenbaum

Daniel Rosenbaum is a New York–based painter, draftsman, and sculptor whose practice spans painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, and mixed media. He earned his BFA from the School of Visual Arts in 1979, studying under painters Elizabeth Murray and Jennifer Bartlett, and completed an MFA at Brooklyn College in 1994, studying art history with Jack Flam and painting with Karen Giusti. A 1981 residency at the Ucross Foundation in Wyoming reshaped his approach to color and imagery.

His drawings have been held in the drawing files of Williamsburg's Pierogi Gallery since 1997, and his work has appeared in exhibitions at PS1, the Staten Island Museum, and numerous galleries in and around New York.

His current paintings build acrylic-painted, collaged-canvas works — pouring and layering paint on the floor to conjure imagined creatures and landscapes, evoking grand skies, impossibly-colored terrain, and mythical figures.
